DA NEWS / Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has written to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to provide 42 per cent dearness relief to pensioners of the state at the earliest.

The letter seeks the consent of Madhya Pradesh for payment of dearness relief under Section 49 (6) of the Madhya Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2000. In his letter, Chief Minister Baghel has asked the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh to give appropriate instructions to the officials for consent in this regard so that as soon as the consent is received, action can be taken to give 42 percent dearness allowance to the pensioners of Chhattisgarh.

The Chief Minister has written in his letter that the Finance Department of Chhattisgarh had written a letter to the Madhya Pradesh Government on August 2 to provide dearness relief to the pensioners of Chhattisgarh.

It is noteworthy that Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel has decided to provide 42 percent dearness relief to retired government officers-employees from 1st July 2023. For the implementation of this decision, under Section 49 (6) of the Madhya Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2000, consent for payment of dearness relief on pension is required between the two states.

Further action on pension relief can be taken only after such consent is obtained. It is noteworthy that as soon as the consent of Madhya Pradesh is received, action will also be taken by the Chhattisgarh government in the direction of providing pension relief without delay.

It is noteworthy that the demand of the pensioners’ organizations to increase the rate of dearness relief to 42 percent is continuously being made. It has taken time to give relief to the pensioners as the consent of the Madhya Pradesh government is still pending. After the letter of the Chief Minister is written, now swift action can be taken in this regard.
